The Crazy Bet!!
In July 2008, the team of riders brought together by Rapha clothing will attempt to emulate the achievements of ‘Master Jacques’ by taking on the two most demanding amateur road riding challenges in Europe back to back. On Saturday 5th July, the riders (Guy Andrews (Rouleur Mag), Bill Strickland(Bicycling), John Bradly (Outside Mag) and Simon Richardson (Cycling Weekly)) will tackle the Marmotte, the 174km sportive which includes the dreaded climbs of the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Telegraphe and Col du Galibier. They will all be riding Independent Fabrication XS frames and wearing swanky new Rapha duds. We will be giving away a custom XS frame at the conclusion of the event to the person who guesses the time it will take for John to finish. An absolutely amazing XS review from Bicycling Magazine!!
Bill Strickland, Bicycling Magazine's Executive Editor has had an XS for about three years and has just published his review of the frame which is nothing short of amazing. The article begins "My devotion to the IF XS lies somewhere beyond reason...". There is also a lovely little "tattoo piece" describing Independent Fabrication as a company. So, run out and grab the latest copy of Bicycling magazine. Its the one with McDreamy on the cover...so now you have two reasons to buy it. Thank You Veloce!!!!
The 2008 North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) was amazing. The bicycles were some of the best the world has ever seen. Some of the best pictures of the Bicycles were taken by Brad Quartuccio from UrbanVelo, Check them out! He worked super hard shuttling bicycles back and forth to properly document the event and deserves some major props! Independent Fabrication would also like to send out a huge thank you to the employees at Veloce Bicycles. Demetri and his crew took amazing care of us while we were out in Portland, so much so that we are still in shock from the hospitality. Also check out Matt Bracken on YouTube explaining a couple of the cool bikes we brought to the show. The Ti/Carbon Roadster and the first IF lugged bicycle ever!

North American Hand Built Show and Party!

IF Racer Harlan Price beats Floyd Landis at Shenandoah 100!!
Our Pro Mountain biker Harlan Price took second place this past weekend in the Shenandoah Mountain 100, the National Ultra Endurance series final. The SM100 has historically been the biggest 100 miler on the east coast, but when Landis announced he was signed up for the race, promoter Chris Scott had to ask for special permission from the park service to allow another 150 racers in. At the end of the day Harlan was able to gap Floyd on the last downhill into the campground for a 1:30min advantage.READ MORE

IF Racer Matt Roy sets Maine state record!!
Matt Roy completed the 382 mile ride from Fort Kent to Kittery ME in 22.25 hours. The ride included 22,000 feet of climbing, nasty headwinds, porcupines, looming thunderstorms and 96 degree temperatures. His average speed with stops was 17.6 mph. This is the first cross-state record for the state of Maine. The bar has been set high. He is raising money for the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Mo was able to dominate the Expert 30-34 Mountain Bike National Championship race at Mount Snow. This win propels her into the pro ranks for 2008. Mo is one of our best racers achieving a National Championship in Cross for 2006. Congrats Mo! Awesome as always!

For those of you who have been waiting for the 953, it is now ready for sale. There is one thing though. While the tubing is finally ready to go, we dont have it in our hands yet, but it is being shipped. Reynolds in England is shipping out quantities of it as we speak but orders are already piling up for 953 frames. Turn around time on a regular Ti or Steel frame is currently 4 weeks but the lead time on 953 orders will be about 10 weeks until we get in all the tubing and get up to speed. Pricing Increase!!!!
This is to let everyone know that there will be a significant price increase on all models. This will kick off on the 15th of October. The price increase comes in response to large increases in the cost of materials. Titanium, steel and carbon have all jumped in price over the last couple of years and even more dramatically in the last few months. COLT MCELWAINE wins the USA National Championship
Colt won the USA National Championship for Cross Country Endurance (called a Marathon), racing for over 5 hours in 90+ degree heat. He competed with 19-29 year old Experts....led until the final lap when he cramped and was passed several times. Colt attacked on the last climb and finished without anyone else in sight. He was awarded the Stars and Stripes National Championship jersey which he will wear for one year. We are very proud of Colt, he has been a great promoter of I.F. This is the 3rd National Championship win for I.F. riders this year. Colt follows Mo Bruno and Marianne Stover. Congratulations!

The XS was featured during a segment on bikes with Bicycling Magazine editor Steve Madden. A highlight of the segment is when Madden says, "IF is a small company in Boston. They do great work, great guys, too," and host Harry Smith proceeds to cast some sort of voodoo spell on the bike. Maybe he thought he could make it levitate.

IF Racers Kick Butt at Cyclocross Nationals!!!
We would like to send our congratulations and thanks to the women and men who took part in the Nationals this past weekend in snowy Providence RI. Mo Bruno and Mary- Anne Stover took 1st place in their respective age catagories, with Pauline Frascone taking 2nd place. Brenda Bahnson (Captain of the Elite Team) finished a very strong 6th place . Mo then went on to take 3rd in the womens Elite race. John Bruno, Jamie Pair and Colt McElwaine also did extremely well. The FRAME GALLERY IS UP AND RUNNING!!!
Check out the new frame gallery to see some of the beautiful and sometimes crazy paintjobs that have come out of the shop in recent months. This will be continually updated with new frames so keep checking back. Our current "photo studio" (dropcloth backdrop) and "camara" (one of the first digitals) kind of suck so bare with us and consider the images "reference material" not a true representation of the quality qnd luster of the real life thing.
