South Downs Record is Broken!!
Tuesday, May 26th 2009
Race report from Ian Leitch:
Well what a day, in short I made it and I made it almost 2 hours quicker than the old record in 18.03. Hurrah!!
The legs felt tired from the off and I was a touch frustrated as I had been building to this one for a long time. When I split my tire and had puncture after puncture my frustration increased further still. But the support from Rory, Jon, Will, Charlie, Simon, Catherine and Lydia en route, coupled with the magnificent views and the fact that I was doing the double made the day great. In the last 20 miles it all came together and I had one of those unexplainable moments where the legs feel no pain and every line is hit to perfection... it made the day.
I will probably be back to have another go and get the record down some more before the year is out so watch this space.
Thanks again for reading.
